WHERE TO STAY IN CANGGU
WHERE THE HIPTSERS HANG
These days the IN crowd can be found just a little bit further north of Seminyak around "chilled" Canggu, which is groovy and undeniably cool. Canggu actually refers to an 8km coastal stretch which consists of Berawa, Batu Bolong and Echo Beach. Canggu is home to a growing number of the hip Bali expats.

OK, so the beaches are known for surfing, not calm kid-friendly water and the sand is dark grey volcanic sand. But, Canggu has lots going for families - hip little cafes and eateries (some come with kiddy playground and/or toys), groovy & eclectic beachside haunts where you can lounge on a bean bag, dine and drink while the kids run around the lawn, and plenty of places to do yoga and get a massage. The pace is less hectic than around Seminyak and Legian, and there are even rice paddies left, although who knows for how long as there is certainly lots of construction going on and road works to cope with the increasing traffic.

It's easy. It's worth getting one of the free Canggu maps when you arrive from one of the cafes or shops, as it can be a bit confusing, and the roads are narrow and windy. Canggu is about 30 - 45 mins from the airport (depending on traffic). It's about 15 km north of Seminyak.
